Dancing with Debra

Dancing with Debra
Debra Allen (Whakatū Nelson)

Debra dances from heart. It’s her No.1 passion in life. Come along to this world premiere interactive show featuring Debra, with Zoë joining in as ‘the interviewer’. Debra is a seasoned dance performer with Down Syndrome, who shares her love of dance around Nelson and beyond, inspiring people with her pizazz and her extraordinary trailblazing story.

Debra’s favorite affirmation is “I was born to be a dancer”. Dancing with Debra is a metaphor for the way she has moved through life. This one-woman show is set to celebrate, confront, and challenge beliefs about people with Down Syndrome and disabilities.

Debra has attended various forms of dance classes over the years and developed her own unique free style. She is the Queen of Improvisation and has carefully selected popular dance tracks, along with storytelling about her journey to adulthood.

Be prepared to be charmed by Debra in this fun and poignant performance, with surprise interactive moments.

Debra did an amazing performance for our group. I loved her energy and stage presence. Debra is truly living her dream!” Sarah Whittle, Regional Coordinator, Parent 2 Parent Awards
