False Idol
Andy Manning / Knot Theatre (Ōtautahi Christchurch)
“You simply must see this fabulous, heart-warming ode to shameless self-love and acceptance.” Theatrereview
What if God isn’t gay enough for you? Andy Manning had a conversation with God at a Christian music festival when they were 14 and thought they’d found something to believe in. But after they came out as queer and nonbinary, they discovered that God really was inside them all along.
Now they worship a new god: their own divine self, and they want to help you do the same! With an original score written, played, and performed by award-winning multi-instrumentalist Andy Manning, the show is a one-person tour-de-force by one of Aotearoa’s leading musical theatre and cabaret artists.
Your pastor/priestess, Andy, preaches a rousing musical sermon at the altar of gender euphoria, queerness, and shameless self-love. Touching themes of identity, self-love, queerness, family and fabulous outfits, it’s just like going to church, only funnier and sexier. Learn to love the sin AND the sinner, savour the forbidden fruit, and BE YOUR OWN GOD.
Knot Theatre are one of Wellington’s premiere up-and-coming theatre companies. Andy has over 15 years’ experience in the theatre industry and fringe scene.
