Want to make a real difference in Nelson’s creative future?
Join the Nelson Fringe Festival Board of Trustees.
Who we’re looking for:
We need trustees who bring diverse skills and perspectives.
You don’t need to be an artist or have festival experience.
What we do need:
- People who care about the arts and community.
- People who can think strategically, not just react to problems.
- People with financial literacy or a willingness to learn it.
- People who understand governance or want to develop those skills.
- People with connections to underrepresented communities.
- People who can open doors to funding, partnerships, or networks.
- People who will show up prepared and ask hard questions.
- People who can commit to bi-monthly meetings and the work between them (which is usually pretty light).
- Ideally a two-year commitment to membership on the board.
Bonus points if you have experience in:
- Fundraising or grant writing
- Marketing or communications
- Legal or financial management
- Community development
- Working with diverse or multicultural groups.
But mostly, we need people who will challenge us to be better, who won’t just nod, who care enough to push back when something doesn’t serve our mission.
If that sounds like you, keep reading.
Here’s what’s in it for you:
Learn governance the right way. Our board is small, agile, and focused. You’ll get hands-on experience without the corporate bureaucracy or endless meetings. This is governance where you can see the impact of your decisions.
Build genuine connections. You’ll work alongside passionate artists, community leaders, and people who care about making things happen.
Shape culture in real time. You’ll help decide strategic direction, funding priorities, and how we show up for our community. Your voice carries weight here.
Gain board experience that counts. When you’re ready for your next governance role (if you’re interested in continuing volunteering in this way), you’ll have real stories to tell- decisions you made that changed outcomes for artists and audiences.
Be part of something that’s fun. Yes, we take the work seriously. No, we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We value joy, creativity, and laughter as part of how we work.
Paying it forward. Volunteering is fun, and this is a great way to build your volunteering muscle in a thoughtful, considered manner that benefits many.
