Can’t Hear Her Voice

2 July, 2025

Join us for a reading of Jim Risner’s new play, Can’t Hear Her Voice.

If you’re curious about how a story comes to the stage, then come along to our New Play Reading series. A play reading is a simple event designed to let a playwright hear their work read aloud in a staged reading, and get feedback from the audience. There is a moderator who reads the stage directions and various readers who read each part of the script. After the reading, there is a Q&A session for feedback and discussion that can be really helpful for the playwright in the next stage of development.

Nelson playwright and performer Jim Risner (Only One Choice, 2022 Nominee for Best of Nelson Fringe) was planning to present Can’t Hear Her Voice in the 2025 Nelson Fringe, but circumstances got in the way. So now we get to hear the play, ahead of it being in the 2026 Nelson Fringe.

After the death of his wife, Dave puts his heart and soul into raising his only daughter. But what happens to him if something happens to her? This new play by Jim Risner looks at the pressures and consequences of an intense relationship and what happens when someone acts before thinking.
